Learnt vs learned

March 4, 2006

Well apparently 'learnt' is British English and 'learned' is American English. Better go with the British since that's where I am. I have from time to time heard of Canadian English (lots of people write to Sars asking about it), but I have never heard formal mention of Australian English. Actually, hold on, yay for Wikipedia!

I am still yet to learn the basis for the aversion that the English appear to have for proper hot water systems. One of the rental flats I viewed today was the first that I have seen (apart from our present one) in which the shower hose came directly off the taps, rather than via a little electric shower unit. Yeah, let's put an electrical device in the shower, great idea! Maybe it's not so much an aversion to proper hot water, but that widespread acceptance of mediocrity. Who knows?
